Valencia's young, modern, vibrant side offers the perfect solution for big kid fun! Not a kid? No excuse!
The good thing about Valencia city is that it is not too far to travel from the Costa. With a nice half-way breakfast stop to break up your journey, you can very comfortably be on the doorstep of this buzzing regional capital.
The most surprising fact for young and old is the first sight as you arrive in the city. You'll be mesmerised by huge, overly-proportioned avant-garde buildings representing anything from giant eyeballs to fantastical mammals of the sea, with architecture that is nothing less than awe-inspiring. Of course, we're talking about the very modern City of Arts and Sciences complex - a 350,000m2 cultural and recreational complex that reflects faultlessly onto sheets of dazzling turquoise waters.
Within the vast complex, there's Oceanografic that hosts the largest maritime centre in the whole of Europe, being home to sea-life from all the world's seas. So if penguins and sharks tick your little nippers' boxes then this will surely be a good catch. It's also the home of the most spectacular dolphin shows that are truly world-class.
A hop away is the Science Museum which is one unlike any other: touching is permitted - and encouraged! This is the largest interactive science museum in Europe and covers everything from human life to space travel providing a great hands-on encounter for those little explorers who can't keep their hands still.
Completing the trio is Hemesferic that houses a huge planetarium as well as on Omnimax cinema allowing you to journey through the galaxies and gaze at the stars. Your little adventurers will find this attraction out of this world.
This wonderful complex can be found right in the centre of the city, situated along the old dry riverbed. Offering lots of fun and a little bit of learning, it is perfect for children and adults. The setting is simply breathtaking with a range of contemporary buildings sitting majestically amongst green gardens and reflective lakes, yet strangely comfortable amidst the traditional architecture of a city rich in history, art and culture.
This city's modern, forward-thinking outlook makes it a great destination for the young or young at heart. The revolutionary Biopark venture also serves as a wonderful example. Situated alongside another stretch of dry riverbed, it offers the visitor a new "zoo immersion" experience with virtually no barriers between humans and animals where education, conservation, and respect for the environment all merge to create a zoo centre that is unique and innovative. With its world-renowned breeding programs and high conservation standards, it is a modern zoological experience you'll be proud to visit. So, if your little monkeys have boundless energy, let them lose here where they can learn, discover and interact with the animals almost Dr Dolittle style!
Of course, there's plenty more to do in this city by the sea... the coast and attractive port area is easily reached; there's the world-renowned concert venue The Palace of Arts; and the beautiful and large Royal Gardens.
Can't get them into museums normally? Take them to the Museum of Las Fallas, where they will just love the towering figures built from 1934 right through to the present day – you'll be viewing comical effigies of famous people, politicians or celebrities that normally get torched at the unique and annual night of fire in March. The ones here have been spared the flames and are showcased in a museum with a difference. The garish colours, shapes, styles and imaginative creations will light up their eyes!
2000 years of history means this regional capital is rich with art, architecture, culture and history. All evident in its many monuments, galleries and museums. Worth a visit is the Gothic cathedral, started in 1262 which houses the Chapel of the Holy Grail. So you can visit the 1st century carnelian agate cup said to be the chalice used by Jesus Christ at the Last Supper. Also, your little soldiers will love climbing up all those steps of the nearby Serranos and Quart Towers – original 14th and 15th century gates to the city, a perfect example of military architecture plus a rewarding and dramatic view across the city skyline.
No matter what your age, Valencia is a city that beckons to be discovered. There's always something to do in this city and Coachtrips S.L use a good standard hotel in which provides a wonderful and comfortable base from which to begin your adventures!
