Las Fallas is known as the festival of fire. Hundreds of Valencian neighbourhoods will have spent all year creating huge effigies of celebrities, politicians and anyone famous, poking fun at them - all tongue in cheek of course. Then, all the effegies, which are true works of art, will be placed around the city and admired by thousands of people from around the world.
Valencian communities parade around the city too dressed in national costume, playing instruments and singing songs. They’ll also take part in the dressing of the virgin ceremony where processions carry flowers to the square to build a huge model of their virgin made completely of flowers. Stunning.
The one-week fiesta also has firecracker displays and firework shows and then on the final night of the fiesta, all of the effigies are put to the flame in a one-night extravaganza of fire.
