The exceptional scenery which makes up the Jucar gorge is absolutely breath-taking and as it´s perched on a rock on the river bed of the river Segura, the cave style houses around are an incredible sight as they slope upwards towards the castle at the top which allows panoramic views of the village.
After some free time in Alcala Del Jucar village we head on a short scenic journey up through the valley to the charming El Mirador restaurant where we enjoy a delicious 3 course meal ( including wine and water ). El Mirador literally translates to The Viewpoint and this is undoubtedly the restaurants charm ( as well as its array of unusual pets ) . The views over the gorge and the village from here are simply breath-taking and really make the meal special.
After our wonderful meal we take another visit to the village and its quirky Devils Cave. This cave is literally owned by the devil. The devil himself is a friendly chap by the name Juan Jose Martinez, a famous Spanish bullfighter who went by the bullfighting name of El Diablo ( The Devil ). Juan Jose is quite a character and is very happy to tell you about his bullfighting career and pose for pics. Please note that the caves charge a small entry fee which is not included in the price of the tour.
NOTE: The village is located on a sloping hill so therefore not all areas ( inc the caves ) are easily accessible to people with walking difficulties.
