SEVILLE / CORDOBA / ANTEQUERA
Our Andalucia experience starts with a relaxing journey from the Costa Blanca with carefully selected comfort stops en route to Andalucia, situated in the south east of Spain. It is the country´s most populous region, and it offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the entire country.
Staying at the centrally located Hotel Selu in Cordoba this gives you the freedom and flexibility to explore this charmingly quaint city in your own time while also giving you flexibility at mealtimes to choose wherever takes your fancy whether it be a menu del dia, snacks, larger meal or traditional Andalucian delights.
Day 1 is our day travelling to Cordoba. With comfort breaks en route and even a stop at the famous Purullena cave village we arrive in Cordoba mid to late afternoon. This gives you chance to settle into the hotel and even pop out in the evening for a wander round this stunning city.
Day 2 gives you a full free day to explore Cordoba and all that it has to offer. Capital of Muslim Spain for almost the entire period of Moorish rule. Yet with a history dating back to, and far beyond, the Roman occupation. It has cobbled streets, horses and carriages, flower filled patios, an old Jewish district which houses one of only three medieval Synagogues still standing in Spain. Locally produced leather work and silver jewellery are in evidence in the shop windows. The whole feeling of Cordoba is one of horses, carriages, Flamenco music and dresses, dark eyed girls with shiny black hair, and rugged, olive skinned young men. In other words - authentic Spain. It is here that you can visit the breathtaking Mezquita, one of the most unique buildings in the world, which combines a mosque with a cathedral.
Day 3: We are off to Seville, the flamboyant capital city of Andalucia. Home to the regional parliament. Here the river Guadalquivir is at its mightiest as its waters pour towards the sea. You can take a mini cruise on the river ( an an additional cost ) , use the tourist bus to take in the cities´ many sights, enjoy a carriage ride through the cobbled streets, visit the massive cathedral where Christopher Columbus is said to have been interned, marvel at fabulous views from the cathedral tower, or visit the "Maenstranza" bull ring - one of the most famous and most attractive bull rings in Spain. For those looking for quieter moments; rest in the shade of the beautiful Maria Luisa park, watch the world go by in the charismatic "Plaza España", learn about Andalucia in the Museum of Andalucian Culture, or trace the regions history through the archaeological museum. Then there is the Alcazar, the patio of oranges, the prison where Cervantes was incarcerated, the Torre de oro and so much more.
Day 4: Our last day culminates in a visit to the often overlooked but extremely interesting town of Antequera. With a grand old castle set atop the hill, buildings with enchanting Moorish architecture and the old centre, with its narrow, cobbled streets and curiously interesting dolmens Antequera exudes history.
