We have a new trip to offer you to 2 of the Costa Blanca north coastal destinations.
We take you to the busy resort of Calpe on a Saturday which is when the local market takes place and is known as one of the largest in the area. After a mosey through the market looking for bargains you will have ample free time to enjoy the rest of what Calpe has to offer.
You could start at Calpes main attraction which is the imposing Peñon D´Ifach or Calpe Rock. Rising 332metres above sea level the rock is now home to a nature reserve and walking trail which takes you to the top of the rock and affords the best views over the area and town. The access to the rock is via a hollowed out tunnel which was constructed back in 1918. The route is very pleasant but aimed towards experienced walkers due to the steepness in places. At the foot of the rock on the lower parts you will find the Ifach Village excavation site. This site dates back to the 13th Century and was an area repopulated by Christian settlers who were offered land and homes if they agreed to fully obey the King. The site shows us an array of homes, buildings, church and more and gives a really interesting insight into what life was like in those times.
Calpe also has many other attractions. Calpe is home to a set of salt flats which date back to Roman times but are now home to over 173 species of flora and wildlife and the resident flamingos and storks are a local attraction.
You can lose yourselves in the old town of Calpe, with its narrow streets and lots of local history. You can learn more about Calpes history via the museums and historical sites. There is evidence of the old walled defensive system via the walls and small towers which were originally constructed in order to protect the villagers from possible pirate attacks. You can also wander the streets looking into the shops and having a drink in one of the lovely bars with sea views.
We then take you to Moraira. Once a small, traditional fishing town it is now a more upmarket, chic town with a pleasant waterfront promenade and home to fashion boutiques, gift shops, cocktail bars and more. A small tourist train is available at a small cost to take you on a wonderful journey through Moraira and even to some of the nearby bays, showing you the expensive homes, yachts and pretty local area.
